Floreal B

Name of the variety in France

Floreal

Origin

Floreal has been obtained by INRA. This interspecific hybrid results from the interspecific crossbreeding of Villaris and a descendant of Muscadinia rotundifolia.

Regulatory data

In France, Floreal is officially listed in the "Catalogue of vine varieties" since 2018 on the A list and classified.

Cultivation and agronomic skills

Floreal is vigorous and has a semi-erect bearing. This variety is susceptible to magnesium deficiency. It must be carrefully trellised.

Technological potential

Floreal's bunches are small and loose. The berries are medium in size with a moderately thick skin and a soft, averagely juicy pulp. Floreal produces expressive, rather aromatic and fresh wines, with exotic fruits and box tree aromas.

Susceptibility to Diseases and Pests

Floreal is resistant to downy mildew and powdery mildew. It is also partially resistant to black rot. This variety is however sensitive to bud mite disease.
According to the breeder, based on current knowledge, two fungicide treatments for downy mildew and powdery mildew are essential to preserve resistance factors. This protection should be increased in case of high disease pressure.

Clonal selection in France

The only certified Floreal clone carries the number 1265.
